What is Zero Waste?
Hundreds of local governments have developed zero waste strategies, all with unique definitions tailored to their communities. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) summarizes Zero Waste Initiatives to: "The conservation of all resources by means of responsible production, consumption, reuse, and recovery of products, packaging, and materials without burning and with no discharges to land, water, or air that threaten the environment or human health."

In essence, it means that every resource that we use has value and takes incredible amounts of energy and environmental sacrifice to produce. Each resource on earth is in fact limited, so why not waste as little as we possibly can? Zero Waste Initiatives seek to divert as much material from landfills as possible, reusing those resources that took so much to produce.
Revive Energy is revolutionizing Zero Waste Initiatives regarding plastic waste. Plastic is produced from oil which is drilled and fracked and then transported thousands of miles, emitting millions of tons of carbon in the process and occasionally resulting in tremendous amounts of environmental damage due to spills. So why waste the oil in plastic and simultaneously pollute our oceans, air, and food? Revive Energy recovers this plastic and converts it into a valuable resource.

In order to achieve zero waste and a "Circular Economy ", society has adopted four "R's" Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Recover.

Reduce
The most important piece of Zero Waste Initiatives and circular economies. We need to be better about reducing our single use packaging. Plastic did not exist before the 1950's and society still functioning optimally. We need to practice more conservation as a society and there are several ways that we can do this.

-
Buy bulk! This reduces packaging, plastic, cardboard, etc.
-
Reusable bags and water bottles
-
Individually choose to carry items, if possible instead of bagging them
-
Pack your own lunch and use reusable containers instead of plastic baggies
-
Purchase items that are not individually wrapped
-
Bring your own mug or cup for soda and coffee
-
Read articles online instead of purchasing paper issues
-
Buy environmentally friendly or vegan make-up

Reuse
The next most effective way to become zero waste is to reuse as much material as you can. This is a great way to save not only resources from going to the landfill but also save money! By reusing material it means less natural resources need to be consumed to produce the same result.

How can we reuse waste?
-
Donate unwanted toys, books, etc instead of landfilling
-
Donate clothing, household items, and utensils to second hand stores.
-
Reuse as many office supplies as possible from folders to envelopes.
-
Use old jars and bottles for other uses.

Recycle
Did you know that there are 7 different types of plastic? Each of these plastics have their own unique chemical properties. More importantly, they are categorized based on how recyclable they are.
While plastics #1 and #2 are recyclable the vast majority of 3-7 are extremely difficult to recycle, and are often landfilled.

Revive Energy is fully capable of taking any and all of these plastics and recycling them into electricity to power cities, eliminating them from the earth.

Revive Energy believes that society needs to transition away from plastic. Cleaning up plastic in the environment while it is still being produced is similar to trying to empty a bathtub with a spoon while the faucet still running. Our company seeks to safely dispose of the plastic that has been and will be produced.
Recover
The vast majority of plastics are hard to recycle or cannot be recycled with current technologies. In fact the majority of recyclable plastics can only be recycled one time before virgin plastic is needed to stabilize the end product.

Revive Energy recycles all plastic into electricity, thus removing it from the face of the planet entirely. Once the world is no longer dependent on fossil fuels; Revive Energy will start putting it's pyrolysis oil back into the ground where it came from!
Until that point Revive Energy will utilize its fuels to supplement the fossil fuel market. Pyrolysis oil is many times more environmentally friendly than using virgin fuels.
